We are proud to share that our PI, Professor Wentai Liu, has been named the inaugural holder of the J.M. Maguire Term Chair in Engineering at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering.
The endowed chair was established in 2020 with a $500,000 gift from UCLA Samueli alum Joanne Maguire M.S. ’78, Cert. ’89. The gift was matched with an additional $500,000 from the Samueli Foundation. Maguire, former executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Space Systems, created the chair to support pioneering engineering research at UCLA.
Professor Liu is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work at the interface of electronics and biology, including technologies that have restored vision to the blind, advanced brain–machine interfaces, and developed novel approaches for treating neurological disorders and pain. His appointment reflects both his longstanding contributions to bioengineering and his continued leadership in advancing biomedical innovation.
Congratulations to Prof. Liu on this well-deserved honor!
